Presser held for ‘Fish Lake’ after Fajr screening

A press conference for Iran movie ‘Fish Lake’ is organized in Iranian capital city of Tehran after its Fajr Filmfest screening.

A presser for Iranian movie ‘Fish Lake’ has been held in Iranian capital city of Tehran after its screening at Fajr Filmfest.

The Monday session held at Tehran’s Milad Tower was about Iranian director Maryam Doustee’s latest movie ‘Fish Lake’ which is a Sacred Defense film shown at Fajr Film Festival.

In the gathering, the film’s producer as well as some of its cast and crew members were present alongside the director.

Doustee said the film came into being after three years of hard work, adding that she was involved in making short films prior to her feature directorial debut.

She also noted that gender bias in film making has no place, adding, “I tried to establish my own style of directing.”

Saeed Saadi, the producer of the movie’ said that ‘Fish Lake’ “deserved to be chosen for the competitive section” of Fajr Film Festival.

The film narrating a story related to Iraq-Iran war with a fresh perspective has taken part at the non-competitive section of FFF.

Critics say Doustee’s directorial debut is on a par with movies by noted Iranian filmmaker Ebrahim Hatamikia who is a well-established figure in the realm of Iran Sacred Defense movies.

Two sister actresses in Iran Cinema, Setareh and Laleh Eskandari, star in the movie.

Fajr Festivals are held annually in Iran during the Fajr Decade (literally meaning ten days of dawn), which marks the anniversary of the ten days from the return of Imam Khomeini, founder of the Islamic Republic, to Iran (February 1) until the victory day of the Islamic Revolution (February 11) in 1979.

Established in 1982, the Fajr International Film Festival celebrates cultural exchange, displays creative achievements of highly acclaimed cineastes and pays tribute to local and international films.

Since its establishment, the Fajr Film Festival has played a vital role in the development of Iranian Cinema.

Supervised by Iran’s Ministry of Culture, the festival hosts veteran directors and new filmmakers from Iran and across the world every year.

The screening sessions will last for 8 days from January 29 to February 9.
